I think we need professional journalism. We need journalists who are paid to go out and collect facts, to be balanced. But I think tremendous value is added by the fact that ordinary citizens can participate in this conversation, and if they think something is being reported inaccurately, they can point it out, as we saw in the case with Dan Rather and CBS.
[…] A lot of journalists now are starting to follow specialist blogs, keep an eye on them for story ideas, and also to get a sense of whether people think they’re completely off-base on certain things. And you’ve got some blogs that are being done by journalists to talk more in-depth about stories they’re reporting on professionally. You’ve also got some blogs that are just completely amateur, that might not even be trying to be journalism.
